DEMOLITION RECYCLING

Demolition Recycling in Austin

Southwest Destructors is at the forefront of demolition recycling. We take helping our environment very seriously. That’s why we make a major effort to limit the amount of trash that goes to the landfill. Aside from being good for the environment, it also saves you a lot of money!

At our total demolition work sites, we separate materials to the maximum extent we can using our advanced demolition equipment. Mostly all metals are scrapped and we pass these savings on to you through reduced rates. By weight, we are one of the largest demolition recyclers in Austin since almost all of our concrete rubble from local jobs is taken to the only permanent concrete crushing plant in Central Texas. Once there, the rebar is separated from the concrete,it’s then processed into road base and select fill. While this method costs a little more than just regular disposal, in the end it benefits our customers because we spend less time removing rebar (required by city and state regulations to be cut within 6”), enabling us to get finished faster with less labor and heavy equipment time. By making beneficial re-use possible, we help reduce the need for the extraction of raw materials for construction, as well as transporting those materials from outlying areas.

The remainder of our debris is disposed of only at permitted landfills. Proper disposal has become increasingly important as authorities crack down on illegal dumping. As the owner, it definitely matters where your trash goes because you can be held civilly and criminally liable for improper disposal. Upon request, we will gladly furnish you with copies of weight tickets showing you where the debris from your job has gone.

We Believe in Being Green!

Southwest Destructors was committed to being “green” long before it became fashionable or, in some cases, required. We have worked on a number of Green Building and Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) projects. Based on our extensive experience, we can quickly prepare and completely implement an austin demolition recycling participation plan. On one recent project, we recycled over 22,000,000 pounds of metal and concrete comprising over 77% of the total waste stream generated by the demolition of a large office/warehouse. In addition to garnering favorable publicity for the owner, we enabled him to claim the maximum credit available for demolition under LEED (2 points for recycling 75% or more) and obtain favorable government treatment. We will greatly exceed this amount and hope to increase the recycling percentage when demolishing a 485,000 square foot manufacturing facility which, to the best of our knowledge, is the largest single building ever demolished in Austin and certainly among the biggest LEED projects in Texas.
